Residents of Njiru led demonstrations demanding Kenya power to reinstall a transformer which was taken away and replaced with a faulty one.
According to the residents, their lives have become miserable with the power outage raising serious security and business concerns.
Speaking during the demonstration, Fransisco Millah who is a resident and also a businessman in the area maintained that they have lost close to ten billion during the said period.
“Kenya Power inafaa ifanye kazi Yake mambo ya insecurity imepanda sana usiku watu wananyongwa na kupoteza vitu vyao … Njiru imebaki giza na tutandelea na maandamano mpaka waturejeshe stimaTumekuwa Kwa giza for long,Hawa watu walikuja wakachukua transformers saa hii ni three months hakuna stima, biashara zetu zimesimama wengine hata wameanza kuhama ,saa hii shule zinaenda kufunguliwa na hatuna stima watoi wetu hawawezi soma usiku.Kenya Power inafaa ifanye kazi Yake mambo ya insecurity imepanda sana usiku watu wananyongwa na kupoteza vitu vyao … Njiru imebaki giza na tutandelea na maandamano mpaka waturejeshe stima.” He said.
He further disclosed that also affected are school children, the hospitality industry as well as health facilities which require power for smooth running.
The angry residents now want the local leaders and Kenya power company to come and address their plight.There has been an increase in crime with landlords running out of business as tenants migrate to other safer estates.
OCPD Response
Meanwhile Deputy OCPD Ruai, Mr Jackson Sang and the security team were forced to come and make peace with the residents.They promised the residents of heightened patrols to contain the wanton security concerns as the power outage situation is being assorted out.
