It will now take only 15 minutes for Mombasa Road users to get to Nairobi town, this follows the launch of the Nairobi Commuter Rail by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Previously commuters from Mombasa Road to town would use at least two hours to get to town.
“No journey will take more than an hour to the CBD using the commuter rail system,’” Uhuru said.
The Nairobi Commuter Rail System consists of new Diesel Mobile Units and Commuter Rail Buses.
“The new commuter rail system will give our people a faster way of transport that will also be environmentally friendly,” he said.
The new railway service will now transport 3M people per month Rehabilitation of Nrb Station is complete.
The project is part of the plans that are seeking to decongest Nairobi County.
The new Commutter trains will have a maximum of 2 minutes to board or alight and these will be the routes; Nrb- Imara Daima Syokimau(Mbsa Rd), Nrb Athi River (Mbsa RD), Nrb – Githurai – Mwiki- Kahawa Ruiru (THIKA RD) and Nrb- Kibera – Kikuyu(WAIYAKI WAY)
