Education CS George Magoha has announced that schools will re-open in January 2021.
Speaking during a media briefing at KICD, Magoha announced that Education stakeholders have shelved the initial proposal to reopen schools in September for class 8 and form 4 learners. This means that there will be no national exams in 2020.
The CS confirmed this year’s school calendar has been totally lost due to the coronavirus pandemic.
All learners in grade 1 to 4, Standard 5 to 7 and form 1 to 3 will remain in their current classes in 2020.
“Inter-county movement of students will cause severe challenges with high incidents of infections,We are happy to inform Kenyans that the president accepted the recommendations,” he said
The CS further said universities will only re-open if they meet the set regulations.
“Members of the senate and faculty must agree how they are going to do a phased reopening,” he said.
The institutions will undergo an inspection to decide if they have met the required regulations.
