Nubians in Kibra Demand Stake in Sakaja’s Government

Nubians living in Kibra constituency have raised concerns over governor Sakaja’s cabinet saying it is not inclusive and that the minority communit were excluded in totality.

In an interview with Ghetto Radio News Nubians Right Forum Managing Director Shafi Ali faulted Sakaja for not considering the Nubians Community in the appointments despite being Kibra origins.

“As outlined in article 56 and 174 of the Kenyan Constitution it is increasingly common to disregard equality, equity and  representation when appointing officials to positions in the national government and county government… We want to tell Nairobi Governor to consider having Nubians in his government. Nubians and Maasais have a special history in this county and we should be given a portion,” Shaffi said.

“We have only Musa Mohammed as Deputy Director the entire county government Sakaja must do something for us it is not fair at all,” he reiterated.

Sakaja defended his nominees saying he consulted widely on city needs before appointing them.

“We have, following continued consultations with the people of Nairobi, set out our priority areas to get Nairobi moving.  We shall do this by creating an environment that promotes citizen engagement, and makes it easy for you to access services,” said Sakaja.

“Today, we introduce the nominees for County Executive Committee Members for Nairobi City County Government. This team of men and women have been carefully selected to meet the challenge of the responsibility before them,” he added.

This week Sakaja is expected to pick chief officer nominees of various sectors.
