Nyong’o suspends rogue county askaris after ugly incident

Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has suspended from duty all the officers who were involved in the ugly incident where a woman was seen being dragged on a moving pick-up by the County Askaris.

In press release the governor said he was saddened and shocked by a very unfortunate incident in Kisumu following the arrest and mishandling of a lady trader by the city enforcement officers yesterday morning.

He further directed investigations to commence immediately and appropriate action be taken against those found guilty of violating the law.

Nyong’o further urged the all-county enforcement officers to carry out their duties while respecting the human rights of the wananchi.

Nyong’o’s press release comes a few hours after Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu demanded for the resignation of County Inspectorate Mr. Kabong to resign.

The MCAs claimed that many traders within County have passed through hard times in the hands of the County Askaris and that yesterday’s incident was not the first one.

“It was despicable seeing the image of the female hawker clinging to a moving pick-up while being dragged on the ground,” stated Seth Kanga, the Market Milimani Ward Representative.

“We demand that the Head of the County Inspectorate resigns failure to which we will take serious action against him,” he added.

The Speaker of the Assembly Hon. Elisha Oraro directed the committee of Administration of Law, Justice, Constitutional Affairs, Good Governance and Security to immediately look into the matter.

It is reported that woman was found hawking around Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Street.
