Obado to vie for Presidency in 2022
Migori County Governor Hezekiah Okoth Obado has announced that he will vie for presidency in 2022.
Obado who was speaking at a local broadcast station says that he will vie for the seat using his People Democratic Movement Party (PDP).
Answering a question on whether he was working for or with Deputy President William Ruto, the governor said that PDP is an old and well established party which has produced MPs, MCAs and a governor and therefore must not be taken for granted.
“I will not look back. I have served as a Governor for two terms, I cannot vie as an MP or Senator. It is the presidency,” said Obado.
“PDP is bigger and older than United Democratic Alliance (UDA). UDA was formed just the other day,” he further stated.
The Migori County Governor also noted that having many parties is not bad and enhances democracy. If you go to the registrar of parties you will find many parties.
“I wonder why if one starts a party in Nyanza it is perceived to be challenging someone… In other parts of Kenya for example Ukambani there are many parties. Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, Hon. Charity Ngilu, Alfred Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana and the late Kalembe Ndile have their own parties. In western part there’s ANC, Ford K, Ford P and many others. They don’t fight or tussle over supremacy issues like in Luo Nyanza and that’s the way it should be,” he exclaimed.
Currently he is facing charges of murder where he is accused of aiding and abetting the murder of Sharon Otieno, a university student who was pregnant. He is also facing corruption charges in his duty as governor of Migori county which could be a hindrance to his bid based on Chapter Six of the constitution.
