One Person Charged Over Chemelil Violence


A Court in Kisumu on Friday charged a middle-aged man accused of incitement to violence on 13 December at Nyakunguru market, Muhoroni sub county , Kisumu county.

Incident which led to death of one person, injury to three police officers and two vehicles torched.

Stephen Otieno was presented before Nyando Law courts where he pleaded not guilty for the incitement to violence.

“On 13th December 2021, at Nyakunguru area,without lawful excuse, uttered in luo dialect, “Luongnajogi jokuoge,…Luongnajogi Jokuoge….luongnajogo.loosely translates call these people thieves… for me those people words which are not lawful,” reads the report.

Stephen was also charged for destroying evidence which were meant to be used in court and resisting arrest.

“Knowing that five boxes of supermatch export cigarette might be required for judicial proceedings. Willfully removed them from your shop with intent to prevent them from being used as evidence,” read the DCI report.

Stephen was charged for arson where to he willfully and unlawfully caused the setting of fire to a vessel namely a motor vehicle, Toyota Land Cruiser property of Mastermind Tobacco Ltd worth four million,eight hundred thousand. Another Toyota Corolla 100 worth four hundred thousand and twenty thousand.

The accused was released on a cash bail of KSh.50,000 or Alternative bond of Ksh.400, 000.
