Two People Confirmed Dead, 10 Others Injured In Tassia Tragedy
Two People have been confirmed dead and 10 others injured after a building collapsed in Tassia, Embakasi East area.
The two deceased persons are reportedly women.
One woman pulled out of the rubble is reported to have died in an ambulance on her way to the hospital.
Several people have also been pulled out of the rubble with scores others injured.
“I feel sad because we are trying to rescue a woman whose whole body is out but only the hand is still trapped in the rubble,” said a rescue volunteer.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino stated that more bodies could be trapped inside.
He has also called for the proper approval and inspection of buildings in the county by the county government.
Public Works Permanent Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa who is at the scene has called for time and patience for rescue teams to finish the operation.
“We are here with the Kenya Defence Forces teams and other rescue teams and we are trying to rescue the people trapped here before we ascertain the cause of the incident,” said Kihalangwa.
