Outcry Over Poor Waste Management In Maseno Town

Maseno town traders in Kisumu County are decrying the poor waste management system in the area.

The traders claim that Kisumu County has neglected the area in terms of cleaning and waste management.

Maseno Town Traders Chairman Alex Munala says that the poor waste management system is not befitting for a place that was recently upgraded to a town.

“This waste management problem began when Maseno used to be market to date when it is called a Town. This town is dirty and has waste are all over. The town lacks a common waste disposal points that has resulted to waste being littered all over,” said Munala.

Munala says that the county has also not deployed any county staff to help clean the town.

“We don’t have any county staff to help us in cleaning the town. My worry now is on our health, Maseno serves a bigger population including university students and with the state of the town, there might be an outbreak of cholera,” said Munala.

The traders have written letters to Kisumu County Department of Trade to deploy cleaning staff to the town to no avail.

” We had already engaged the county government over the issue, we were directed to department of trade  where we have submitted  several letters appealing to them to deploy some staffs to Maseno but the appeal has not been successful,” he added.

Security lights and water are some of the services that are also lacking in the town.
