Over 100 civil society organizations including Small farmer groups in the East Africa community including Uganda and Tanzania have come together to fight the lift on the GMO ban in Kenya.
Brought together by BIBA, Kenya Biosafety and Biodiversity organization of Kenya, the activists said unanimously that GMO Will interfere totally with the East Africa market as trade will not be free within the countries that are not allowing GMOs.
“As East Africa, we are not supposed to leave few individuals to own control of seeds which are very dangerous to east Africa,” said Ann Maina CEO BIBA.
“By kenya accepting GMOs it’s obvious that it Will penetrate into the whole of east africa,” she said.
Kenya Peasants League has already in court to fight the lift on the GMO ban.
The group’s Secretary General David Otieno was among the activists from Eas Africa who teamed up to condemn the GMO products.
