Panic has hit a section of expectant women after 22 nurses tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 at the Pumwani maternity hospital.
Nurses at the facility also threatened to down their tools arguing that they have not been provided with the necessary PPEs.
According to the nurses they have tried to raise the issue with the hospital’s management but their grievances are constantly being ignored.
The women who are expecting to use the facility now fear not getting proper care or even contracting the disease while at the facility.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, however, addressed the situation during the Monday briefing stating that the infected nurses had been placed in isolation.
The ministry of health further assured members of the public that the infections had been contained and any patients admitted at the hospitals is safe.
“The situation will be assessed by the medics and so far, we have been able to isolate everybody and I know there’s mass testing that has been able to be done in the entire hospital. We were able to isolate two more yesterday. So far it is not necessary to close the hospital,” CS Kagwe said
