Parents and teachers of Our Lady Of Mercy Primary School in Shauri Moyo, Kamukunji Constituency today held demonstrations demanding the transfer of the school’s head teacher for allegedly embezzling the school’s money.

Fredrick Ongalo, the school’s board chairman who led the parents in the demonstrations accused the head teacher Monica Leshamta of locking him out of the school’s board meetings after he questioned how school  Ksh. 800,000 Free Primary Education funds were used.

Speaking during the demonstrations, Ongalo alleges that Mrs. Leshamta is colluding with other board members to embezzle the FPE funds.

“As the school’s board chairman, I noticed that the Free primary Education funds were being embezzled by the school’s head teacher in collision with some board members, when i asked, she refused to give me a feedback, instead the board members removed me from the WhatsApp Group we were using to communicate,” said Ongalo.

“So we are here with the parents demanding that the head teacher be transferred. This is a public school and embezzlement of funds will not be tolerated,” he said.

Joyce Wanjiku a parent at the school also accused the head teacher of illegally selling the school’s equipment and also demanding a lot of unnecessary cash from parents.

“I have a child in class six, this teacher has been harassing us parents, demanding that we give her Ksh. 3,000 for every new child being admitted here, she has also sold school’s equipment and also taken the school’s TV sets to her home,” said Wanjiku.

Another teacher from the school has also accused the head teacher of harassment and mistreatment.

Our Lady Of Mercy Primary School has more than 1000 pupils.
