Pastor Using Kangemi Primary School As Church Given Notice To Vacate

The Ministry of Education has given Pastor Allan Jomba of Open Heavens Church 21 days to vacate Kangemi Primary School.

Jomba has been using Kangemi Primary School compound to conduct his Sunday services contrary to regulations of the Ministry of Education.

According to Westlands Education Director Rosa Mbuno they commenced investigations immediately after complaints by the parents who had petitioned the Ministry.

“The Open Heavens church has been given 21 days with effect from 31st May to get an alternative worship place outside the school premises,” Mbuno said in a letter.

“Disruption of learning within the school due to church activities including political engagements. The above allegations were not true, this is because the church utilized the parade ground only on Sundays when students were not in school thus no disruption of learning by the church was not noted. The panel however established that the Learning Resource Centre had been used to store plastic chairs and tents belonging to the church. This inhibited optimal utilization of the resource center by teachers and learners thus affecting school programs,” it continues.

Jomba has been directed to vacate the school as per the notice failure to which legal redress will be taken against him.

Meanwhile the parents who talked to Ghetto Radio News applauded the move terming it historical and that it will see the end of impunity in public institutions in Westlands.

“We want to thank Madam Mbuno for taking this matter serious…the pastor has colluded with the head teacher and they have using the ground for spiritual services without consulting anyone something that has gone for 5 years now…it is a landmark decision,” Eric Maloba Kangemi resident said.
