On 13th April an alarming intelligence report was submitted to SCCIO Malindi by Karume Fondo and c/o that there are ignorant citizens who are starving to death in pretext to meet Jesus. A religious brainwash context administered by one suspect pastor Paul Makenzie Nthenge of the controversial good news international church.
The intelligent report indicated a mass grave of at least 31 bodies in an identified place at Shakahola Forest within Langobaya in Malindi sub-county by 13th of April. In a fact-finding mission, Police managed to rescue fifteen people of which six were emaciated and in critical condition due to starvation while four died on the process.
As I write this, it is feared that numbers of dead and buried people could be in hundreds! Just today 7 more bodies were unearthed in four mass graves and 26 more graves identified raising the number to 58 within the 800 acres that had been hosting the fasting.
More bodies exhumed form the controversial Malindi forest land.
If this is the trend where one grave has two or more people, then we fear the discovery could be in hundreds of numbers.
The ward MCA Samson Kahindi who had saved a number of victims says it is difficult to come out of the forest as ninja looking men have been strategically put to man the area, watching over those who might try to escape or intrude.
“We are shocked at the level of radicalization! A gang of about 100 youth who attacked us as we went to oversee retrieval of the children’s bodies for a postmortem review.
Paul in an interview with media denies the accusations, claiming he had stopped being a pastor and shouldn’t be referred to as such, and that anyone should carry own cross.
Where is Betty? Friends and colleagues in agony tracing their loved one.
Friends and colleagues of Betty are still in shock and disbelief wondering if she could have been lured to the church. They fear she could be one of Paul’s doctrine victims based on her two weeks behavior at work and itinerary.
Betty and Son Jason
Her son Jason was forced to fast while she was at Qatar at work and passed on. He was living with the grandparents at the time. Receiving the news while at work in Qatar, it is believed she came for the burial but to date, she cannot be traced. In a worrying occurrence, she deleted all her social posts, sold all her belongings and booked a one way flight to Malindi.
Betty at work
Her sister who resided in Umoja, Nairobi wrote an emotional letter to the husband indicating she might not return probably for life!
The husband says she wrote a letter, left with the children headed to Malindi. A friend then told him that they were headed to meet Jesus on the 8th, so they had to leave on the 7th!
‘I tracked her flight which was only a one-way ticket to Malindi…”
“Hallo Abas, I’m so sorry to have left, but may be this was our destiny. Thanks for everything you have done for us to this time while we were still together. Take care of yourself, I hope we meet again someday. I’m really emotional writing this but know I loved you with every bit of me. It is really hard for me, but I have to go…
It is alleged Betty’s parents joined the church a while ago and could be senior members of the church. They have followed the doctrine and some of Betty’s siblings including her son Jason dropped out of school to adhere to the practice. Fasting is such that would take away Jason’s life. The body currently lies in Malindi mortuary as the search for the mother is on.

The unmoved Paul Makenzi says, ‘I’ve been a pastor since 2003 to 2019 when I closed down my church. I did so because God told me my ‘end time message prophesy’ had come to an end’.
He defended closure of his church claiming it was out of his and God’s wish and not the authorities who responded to complaints on his doctrine brainwash effects.
“The law and religion will always conflict, and education is evil. Today education is teaching about lesbians and gays while the law is defending it!” He added. He further claims that in 2019 he prophesized the world will be destroyed, and the economy will collapse by 2023. He also claimed that the government Huduma number was the mark of the beast. He believes these are the conflicts that put him at war with the government that lead to his tribulations with the law and the government.
This were captured in an interview by media on the 16th of April.
Five years ago, together with the wife he was arrested and charged with four counts of promoting radicalization in their church. The Malindi court then released 19 of his followers.
Three years ago, while in Kisumu in one of his preaching, he claimed man is the devil.
On fasting as a religious practice, he believes one cannot fast within the comfort of their households. If possible, they all should be gathered at one place and possibly locked up in shelters to deny the access to food and water. If one dies in the process, he or she proceeds to heaven!
Paul has also encouraged complete detachment from activities considered normal such as education, work, employment, marriage that doesn’t approve of his doctrine to mention but a few. Unexpectedly, his influence penetrates even the most educated and exposed persons from far and wide.

“I’m praying that the DCI conduct through investigation into this matter so that I’m not wrongly accused penalized and defamed like the last time” Paul Makenzi’s plea as more bodies in graves are discovered in the ‘massacre Shakahola’ forest building up to a very unique case that could find him guilty or possibly not implicated but rather a voluntary suicide by starving oneself!
Do you think the law will find him culpable and should it?
