62 Year Old Woman With 19 Kids in Mathare.
As Kenyans join the rest of the world in International Women’s Day Celebration, we introduce to you Beatrice Atieno 62 year old woman hailing from Mathare slum.
Atieno has a family of 19 persons. Out of the 19, nine are her children the rest are grandchildren. With this enormous family she struggles to make ends meet.
Women and Land Inheritance.
Women are mostly not allowed to own or inherit property and property is distributed only to sons and not daughters.
Beatrice who lost her Husband was left with nothing after her husband’s death and has struggled singlehandedly to raise the children .
Her journey depicts the many struggles women face and as the world celebrates this day Ghetto Radio keeps amplifying the struggles of Women hailing from the informal settlements.
