Man Behind Westlands House Demolition Fails To Take Plea

The Director of Criminal investigations Ibrahim Amin now wants the court to allow them to hold the auctioneer who is accused of destroying a woman’s house in Westlands for 14 days.

According to the DCI, the accused person, Zakariah Baraza is a flight risk and might disappear before the completion of investigations.

“The accused person had to be apprehended by the police. So he is in flight risk, we are before you to seek 14 days custodial detention as we complete investigations,” prosecuting officer told court.

Baraza who was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe however could not take any plea.

Baraza is accused of hiring goons to demolish a house that belongs to one Niraj Shah in Westlands. The goons allegedly stole some items from the house.

“In the company of hired goons, they went to the complainant’s home and demolished his house and took away his belonging,” the prosecution added.

The court will deliver its ruling tomorrow as to whether the days prayed for by the DCI will be granted.
