Police in Kiambu have arrested a 25 year old man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend last year in Ndenderu, Kiambu County.

Brian Waweru allegedly went into hiding after killing his girlfriend Everlyn Wanjiru in cold blood at their house.

Wanjiru’s decomposing body was discovered in his house last evening.

It is said that the two lovebirds owned a barbershop and a beauty parlour in Thindigua and had been together for a long time before their relationship went south.

A report from the detectives says that the two however were not in good talking terms since last year October, after Waweru was arrested by the police at Thindigua police post for the assault of the deceased.

The suspect was then after presented before the Kiambu Law Courts and was out on cash bail when he committed the crime.

“According to the deceased’s father, Waweru’s family had approached him several times for an out of court settlement but he had rejected the overtures after he learnt that the suspect was a serial offender, who also had a pending defilement case,” said the DCI.

The two however reunited during the Christmas and New Year where they were spotted making merry.

“A neighbor recalls seeing the two as they entered their one bedroom house on 01 January this year. Sadly, that was the last time that Everlyn Wanjiru was seen alive,” the DCI said in a statement.

Wanjiru’s body was then discovered by Waweru’s aunt who was checking in on him to give him the house rent his mother who lives in the United States had sent.

But during Christmas period, Waweru persuaded his estranged girlfriend into rekindling the happy moments they once had. They then reunited, partied and made merry together during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“She therefore passed by Waweru’s house at around 7:50pm and found the door locked. Using a spare key she opened it only to discover the deceased’s decomposing remains covered with a duvet and Waweru had fled,” said the DCI.

Waweru has since confessed to killing his girlfriend and even led scenes of crime detectives to the spot where he had concealed the murder weapon.

The suspect is currently in custody and is being processed for arraignment in court to answer murder charges.
