Police have halted the construction of a private building inside a market in Mowlem ward in Njiru Sub County.
Njiru Deputy County Commissioner James Chacha stormed the construction site accompanied by Buruburu Sub County Police Commander Adamson Bungei and arrested the private developer known as Masho Mau, the grand daughter of freedom fighter Mwanaisha Bilali.
Speaking To Ghetto Radio News Chacha stated that Mamu has been taken in to record a statement with the police.
According to Chacha, Â there is no way he was going to allow a private developer construct a building inside a public utility.
“There is anew building that is coming up right inside the market. That is why we are here. The good thing is that we have the private developer and we are taking her in for questioning,” stated Chacha
“This impunity must come to an end because i know it is a trend here in Njiru to have private developers grabbing public land and putting up their constructions. We will not allow that,” he said.
Mamu, the private developer has however maintained that the land where the market sits is her property.
According to her Kenya’s founding President Mzee Jommo Kenyatta rewarded her grandmother the piece of land for the good job during the Maumau war.
“I am shocked that they are allowing other buildings to go up here, but are stopping mine. How so?” posed Mamu.
“This land was given to my grandmother by the president for the exemplary work she did during freedom fighting. My grandmother fought for freedom but we seem to not have that freedom that she fought for,” she stated.
