Police Begin Arrest  of People  Without Face Masks In Nairobi CBD

It is not business as usual in the Nairobi Central Business District, as the police and city inspectorate officers have kicked off arrests of those without masks.

This comes just a  day after Nairobi regional Commissioner Wilson Njenga issued the directive.

On Thursday morning city inspectorate team was pouncing on those without mask at Machakos country bus area and a simlar incident was also reported at River road.

‘‘Kanjo was chasing people who did not have masks, they did not even spare the disabled but I managed to escape their wrath,’’ a pedestrian told Ghetto Radio News.

Yesterday Nairobi regional Commissioner Wilson Njenga faulted Nairobi residents for not taking seriously the measure of putting on a mask to curb the spread of Covid 19.

‘‘When we speak and you don’t heed to our calls we shall use other measures including arrests to enforce the same,’’ Njenga warned.

Meanwhile, Matatu Owners Association through its chairman Simon Kimutai has directed all its members to ensure they only pick passengers with masks.

‘‘We understand that putting on a mask is an individual responsibility but for matatus, we must help the government to ensure it is we expect Matatus to only pick those with masks,’’ Kimutai said.
