  • Kindiki is under fire over police brutality as he face vetting panel
  • He was at pain to explain why he dons in school uniform

Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki has defended the police action during the protests saying the officers  acted professionally and according to their ability.

When facing the vetting panel he absolved himself from any blames attributed to police brutality saying the National Police Service is independent.

He was however, pushed to the wall by Saboti Mp Caleb Amisi who questioned his donning in police uniform without taking responsibility when a matter arises within the police service.

‘‘Do police officers or National security council suffer from group-think? Group think in a way that there is no devil’s advocate to give an alternative decision making that can save the country. And the donning of the uniform I mean  the police uniform what surprises me prof is that you give instructions to police you give press conferences you don in uniform of police but when it comes to crime against humanity by the police that’s where you say the police are independent. How independent is the uniform.? Amisi asked the soft spoken nominee.

“It is important for public officials to be put under scrutiny and can be measured with the highest threshold so I have no issue even if am asked or brought here  twenty times.I also submit that National Police Service do not suffer from group think.” Kindiki said.

He however, defended his record for the last two years as Interior Cs saying going forward he will ensure that protesters are designated in a particular area to unnecessary clash with the law enforcement officers.

“It will also designate public institutions in all arms of the government to designate areas in their precincts or in the vicinity of their precincts where a group of protesters who want to demonstrate or present a petition to that public institution can assemble,” he added.
