Police has warned motorists and passengers against flouting traffic rules this festive season .
According to Inspector General of Police those passengers who will be caught standing on vehicles will be held personally responsible.
‘‘We have deployed police officers on our roads during this season. Any excess person in a PSV or any vehicle with effect from today will be dealt with as an individual ..if we find you in any vehicle we shall remove you. It does not matter at any point, the vehicle will continue.’’ Mutyambai said.
Meanwhile NTSA on the other hand warned that their crackdown on PSV operators will continue until they achieve road sanity.
NTSA new boss George Njau says they will be punishing the whole Sacco by revoking their licences should one vehicle be found flouting traffic rules.
‘‘We shall embark on ensuring proper documentation of vehicles, we shall also revoke an approved licence if the operator is found contravening our terms and conditions.’’ Njau stated.
According to NTSA data from 1st January to 17th December 2019,a total of 3,396 persons have lost their lives , 78% were motorcyclist ,passengers and pedestrians.
