A police officer attached to Kamukunji Police station has been arrested for conning treasury officials money amounting to Ksh 200,000 from an employee of the National Treasury.
Corporal Arimba Rioba Daniel was arrested after it emerged that together with his colleague Oliver Tambo who escaped, picked Mohammed Kipritim Arap Cheboi at National Treasury building claiming that they were investigating the corruption case that involved former Treasury CS Henry Rotich.
The two officers are alleged to have demanded Ksh. 300,000 from Kipritim in order to secure his release.
A police report says that Kipritim only realised that he had been conned after he had managed to raise Ksh. 200,000.
Apparently the two officers had also arrested businessman Peter Oyaro and demanded Ksh 100,000 on allegations of forgery.
“They assaulted him and later escorted him to a place near Kamukunji police station and waited for the money to be delivered,” read the report.
The other officer Tambo however escaped a police ambush and is yet to be arrested.
