The media council has called for the immediate arrest of police officers involved in the alleged assault of Standard journalist Isaiah Gwengi.

Gwendi a journalist with the Standard Newspaper was allegedly assaulted by QRT Police on Wednesday in Siaya town.

The police accused Gwengi of writing articles in the newspaper that were inciting the public against them.

Media Council Chairman Charles Kerich condemned the incident saying the case will be pursued until justice is served.

“This is unacceptable. As we head to the election brutality will not be condoned…the duo reported early in the year that their lives were in danger,” Kerich said.

Kerich stated that they have already notified ID Joseph Boinnet on the issue, demanding that the police face the full force of the law.

“If police are daring enough to attack a journalist they know can report the incident, what about an ordinary Kenyan?”said Kerich.
