Police officers in Nairobi have moved with speed to secure State House, and Parliament buildings ahead of planned demonstrations across the Country scheduled for today.

The demonstrations are geared towards commemorating those who lost their lives during the 25th June,2024 youth demonstrations against the finance bill 2024.

At State House, Nairobi and Parliament buildings, a razor wire was erected on Wednesday early morning as anti-riot police officers in groups were deployed at two most coveted spaces on the land, with water cannons being stationed at strategic positions.

Police also erected roadblocks along major roads leading to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) as part of efforts to contain the planned protests.

Roads affected by barricades, as police carried out checks include,Mombasa Road, Ngong Road, Jogoo Road, Thika Road,Langata Road, Limuru Road, and Kiambu Road.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen who walked through the deserted city on his way to  Harambee House, assured of the Government’s commitment to offer security to all Kenyans and their businesses across the country.

“We have a nation to keep and build. On my way to work this morning, I met so many Kenyans who were up early and making their way to their daily hustles.We shall do everything to protect everyone and their livelihoods. I appreciate all our men and women in uniform who keep us all safe and secure,” Murkomen assured.

Meanwhile, a section of demonstrators blowing whistles have already started gathering at archives building in Nairobi’s Central Business District as they vow to continue with their planned demonstrations.
