Police in Kiambu County has nabbed illicit and counterfeit alcohol in Thome Juja sub-county after a tip from members of the public.
The perpetrators rented a hidden house for the illegal activities.
According to Kiambu County Police Commander Perminus Kioi, the consignment was nabbed after police officers acted on a tip from the members of the public.
Confirming the incident, the County Commander said they recovered drums of 250 litres of Ethanol in a compound at Thome Estate used as a distillery for the same second generation drinks. KRA and KEBS Stickers were also recovered during the operation.
“We got intelligence information that there is house being used to brew illicit alcohol we sent our research team where we nabbed the suspects. We found them preparing different brands like Chrome Vodka, and other counterfeit products worth shillings 987200.Other Items recovered includes KRA stamp distillation machine,kerol chemicals,we want to ask members of the public to be vigilant and monitor the destinations opf this big vehicles and Probox because that’s what they us to transport them.’’ Perminus Kioi tol journalist.
Alex Mureithi, the chairman of the area residents association, said the brewer had rented the premises two weeks ago, and residents were unaware of what was happening. He said government agencies should control what is being sold to the public for consumption, as some of the products may be harmful.
“They have been there for the last two weeks though their activities were not yet known..what you could is big vehicles coming from the site and this when we decided to tip the police .I can assure you you that this is not the only place where whatever you have seen.’’ Mureithi, said.
