Kenya Police Women Football Club, commonly known as Police Bullets FC, narrowly missed out on winning the CECAFA Women’s Champions League Qualifiers title, losing 1-0 to Ethiopia’s Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) in the finals held in Addis Ababa on Thursday.
The defeat dashed their hopes of debuting in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Despite the setback, the team delivered several standout performances. Goalkeeper Annedy Kundu, who plays for both the Harambee Starlets and Police Bullets FC, showcased exceptional skill with numerous heroic saves during the match, earning her the 2024 CECAFA tournament’s Best Goalkeeper award.
Coach Beldine Odemba, recognized for her strategic leadership, was named Coach of the Tournament, highlighting her tactical expertise and ability to inspire her team.
Reflecting on the tournament, Executive Chairman SAIG Nyale Munga expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements, stating,
“We came into this tournament as underdogs, and we leave it with our heads held high. This team has shown incredible spirit, skill, and determination.
Their performance has put Kenyan women’s football on the map, and this is just the beginning of our journey.”
The Law Enforcers were aiming to become only the second Kenyan team to qualify for the prestigious CAF Women’s Champions League, following in the footsteps of Vihiga Queens, who made history in 2021.
Although their dream has been postponed for another season, the team remains optimistic. Coach Beldine Odemba emphasized that they are already preparing for a strong comeback in future championships, with renewed hopes of securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
