Jamaican dance-hall Star Popcaan has teamed up with UK artist’s FaNatix and M1llionz in sampling veteran female artist Tanya Stephen’s classical hit, “These Streets Don’t Luv U”.
The song is a fusion of rap and dancehall, M1llionz holds the first verse with his killer delivery, Popcaan comes through in the second verse with his unique glow, providing the dancehall feel.
Tanya’s voice plays at certain intervals throughout the song just like in her original composition done in 2006.
FaNatix in his recent Instagram post paid homage to Tanya Stephen for the go through.
“Big up the legendary @iamtanyastephens for allowing us to sample her classic song, these streets. This would not be possible without you guys” read the post.
Barely a week since its release the song is nearing half a million views, it has shots of Kingston and Miami well blended.
There is also a huge contrast in the songs theme, while Tanya’s message was of a man not being appreciative to his woman.
Popcaan and M1llionz highlight the urban street life orchestrated by drugs, gambling and violence, gang life is exhibited through the show of firearms.
Happy with the collaboration, the artist’s fans have sent messages of goodwill depicting the song as a masterpiece. Tanya Stephens joins the likes of Yellowman whose song Zungguzungguzungguzeng was sampled by Junior M.A.F.I.A and Notorious B.I.G in the song Players Anthem in 1995.
