President William Ruto on Monday morning officially opened the Africa Climate Summit 2023.

He welcomed delegates who are attending the summit

“I welcome everyone to the Africa Climate Summit. You have not just stepped into a conference hall but into the future. This is no ordinary summit,” he said.

This is the first-ever climate summit co-hosted by Kenya and the African Union.

Ruto, who chairs the African Union’s Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), has been vocal on matters around environmental management.

‘’We are not here to catalogue grievances and list problems. We are here to scrutinize ideas, assess perspectives, and unlock solutions. The very format of this Summit has been designed to facilitate such engagements. Over the next three days, be ready to be challenged in this dynamic ecosystem of dialogue and discovery.”

Soipan Tuya , Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary said the three days of the summit will help Africa to think on ways to alleviate the crisis.

“The summit presents opportunities for Africa to develop given its opportunities and potential in solving challenges.” Tuya said.
