His Excellency President William Ruto promised to revive Kenyan football to greater heights.

Leopards broke a 7 year winless run against Gor Mahia as they claimed a 2-1 victory in a tough “Mashemeji” derby.

President awarded both teams Sh1 million and he promised to revive the football standards in the country.

“I promise you we will change the game and I have agreed with Youth Affairs and Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to ensure we restore our lost glory in Football.

He said that on Wednesday Kenya will bid to host the Next African Cup of Nations saying that they will do everything possible to win the bid.

“This is one of the best matches I have watched so far in the league we are officially submitting our co-joint AFCON bid on Wednesday and we are optimistic of winning the hosting rights,” he said.

The derby was graced by opposition leader Raila Odinga, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, his ICT counterpart Eliud Owalo, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja among other dignitaries.

In the exciting match on Sunday evening a penalty from Victor Omune and Maxwell Otieno’s effort on the stroke of half time was all the visitors needed to end their winless run that stretches back to 2016.

Austine Odhiambo scored a goal for Gor in between those two strikes but his effort was insufficient as Kogalo surrendered their title fight to Tusker FC who the previous day had beaten Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 to take charge of the title race with 64 points one ahead of Kogalo.
