The government has banned all political gatherings for 60 days following an upsurge of the Covid-19 cases in the country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has however stated that any politician wishing to hold a political gathering must do it in a townhall and ensure that all Covid-19 restrictions are adhered to.
Uhuru also regrettably noted that the politicians including him had let Kenyans down in managing the pandemic.
“We as leaders have no option to give our all… we must show our people the way. Rise to the occasion and help navigate through this pandemic,” said Uhuru.
“If the public has backslidden occasioned by diminishing stamina on the part of our leaders not leading by example,” he stated.
At the same time, the president has adjusted curfew time to start from 10pm to 4 am from Wednesday until January 2021.
Bars and restaurants have also been directed to close at 9pm.
“If we fail to follow the protocols and let the virus spread and continue to kill our people, we shall have no choice but to go on a lockdown,” he stated.
