Privates schools asked to stop Converting classes to Places of worship
Private school heads in Mathare, Nairobi county have been asked to stop using class rooms as places of worship over the weekend.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News, Nairobi Metropolitan Service’s public Health officer Simon Ndichu said this is posing a huge challenge when it comes to fumigation.
He said the schools are fumigated but come weekend, the same classrooms that have been fumigated in preparation for learning on Monday are used as churches.
“It has been a very huge challenge and we cannot say it has been 100% successful. This is because sometime we fumigate the school on Friday after learning so that it is ready for Monday but the same classrooms are used as Churches over the weekend. This means learners come back to classes that have not been fumigated on Monday.” He said
He however added that they have been lucky not to record any case of Covid-19 as a result of such instances.
“This challeneg has affected mostly private schools in the area because they are the most notorious in using their premises as churches. We have however not reported any case that resulted from such an incident.” He added
Kenya has so far recorded a total of 47,212 cases of Covid-19 and 33,050 recoveries.
