Property worth hundreds of millions yesterday went up in flames when a fire incident razed down Shivling Supermarket in Kisumu County.
It is reported that the fire started at around 6.00am when a security guard noted that there was smoke emanating from the Supermarket.
The retail is located at Reinsurance plaza on Oginga Odinga street.
Efforts to contain the fire were futile since the fire started when the doors were still closed.
Kisumu OCPD Peter Katama confirmed that nothing was salvaged from the store but the management had commence an audit to determine the extent of the loss.
He further confirmed that no life was lost in the process as no staff was present at that time.
“The fire broke out at 6.00am, nothing was salvaged from the store. The cause of the fire is yet to be established,”said Katama.
He further congratulated a team from firefighters, the Kenya National Youths Service and the Members of the public for moving with speed to contain the fire.
“I urge business owners to always put in place alternative ways of putting out fire when an incident like this happens again,” added mr Katama.
