Property worth hundreds of thousands demolished in Ngara

The county government of Nairobi has today begun demolition of structures occupying spaces for bus terminal in Ngara as part of plan to rid CBD of matatus.

The demolitions which took place at Figtree, Parkroad, Desai Kariokor and Muthurwa left traders stranded and counting loses.

One businessman lamented the loss of his property worth 50,000 shllings.

He says the 24 hour notice did not give them enough time to set up business elsewhere.

A cereal business woman says that her demolished shop was only two months old and she had spent Ksh 100,000 to construct it.

She blames the County government saying they would have given them at least a week to settle for other option.

The demolition comes after a new strategy of setting up parking space for public service vehicles outside the CBD to ease traffic congestion in the city.
