Parents have now asked the Education Ministry to shield them from exploitations by school heads as schools open tomorrow.
Some parents who spoke to Ghetto Radio News claim that the government is planning to secretly hike fees to meet needs of their schools.
“It has been a very short holiday and we don’t expect school fee increment from schools … the Ministry should step up and ensure we are not charged any extra coin…We are already struggling with high cost of living and this issue should be taken seriously by concerned officers,” Mary Madegu a parent told Ghetto Radio News.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha yesterday warned school heads against charging extra school fees saying that those who will defy the government directive, will face stern disciplinary actions
He says the government has already released enough capitation for each student and that no one is expected to hike fees to raise more funds.
“Our government is doing what it can that there’s a capitation for every child… everybody is saying government should increase that capitation, but we already giving 25.9 per cent of the budget to education and it is the highest in Africa… I would like to urge students to be realistic because even in their homes the lower people, everyone is suffering is not because of Magoha,” Mogoha said.
School heads have been at logger-heads with Education Ministry over delay in release of capitation funds.
