SPECIAL OLYMPICS Kenya’s Special Olympics team  will be departing on 8th march to United Arab Emirates ready for the summer games slated for 14th -21stMarch this year.

Sports Permanent Secretary Peter Kaberia graced their flagging off ceremony at Kasarani stadium on Thursday 7th.

The Ps  encouraged the team by expressing the government’s pride on the whole team.

“You have worked so well and we value you because you are the best that we have. Go make us proud and we will be ready to receive you back’’

Kenya will be the  second largest team and the largest from Africa in this year’s Special Olympics summer games comprising of 72 players, 20 coaches, 5 chairpersons and the HOD with his assistant.

Team Kenya will peg its hope on 2015 half marathon and 10,000m Gold medalist Onesmus Munyao, Irene Nzilani, Shalel Lennah and Sammy Kamande among others.

Kenya will take part in several events, including athletics, cycling, swimming, basketball and volleyball.

In the last edition of the Special Olympics World Summer games held in 2015 in Los Angeles, United States, Team Kenya bagged a total of 42 medals, 22 Gold, 2 Silver, and 18 Bronze medals.

Their sponsors Coca Cola and Safaricom promised continued support during Abu Dhabi trip with Safaricom handing a 5 million cheque for their up keep.
