Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes (32) has been arrested in Dubai at the request of the Netherlands ,Dutch prosecutors said late on Wednesday.
The former Ajax winger, who is currently contracted to Russian outfit Spartak Moscow, was sentenced to a six year jail sentence in February for aiding the import of 1,363kg of cocaine into the Netherlands.
Dutch authorities have requested his extradition to the Netherlands, with the associated Press reporting that the 32-year-old has been apprehended in the United Arab Emirates.

Promes Arrested Through Red Notice
Prosecutors said Promes was arrested through a so-called Red Notice, a worldwide request to law enforcement to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition.
The Amsterdam Public Prosecution office has said in a statement: “The arrest was made based on a Red Notice issued by the Netherlands. Netherlands will request the extradition of the man. The arrested man was reportedly staying in luxury in Dubai according to various media reports. However, he has been taken into custody thanks to the efforts of the authorities in both countries. At this time, it is not possible to provide additional information to avoid disruption of the ongoing investigation.

Promes Earlier Conviction
That is not Promes’ first conviction, with the former Twente and Sevilla winger being found guilty in 2023 of stabbing his cousin in the leg.
He was given an 18 month jail term for that offence but did not attend the trial and denies the allegations.
Promes, 32, did not attend either trial, with both taking place in Holland.
