Several shops remained closed in Niarobi owners providing in-person security.

 

Police have arrested at least 50 demonstrators who staged protest in various parts of Nairobi Central Business District.

Several arrests were made along Moi Avenue and Kenyatta Avenue where the demonstrators  engage police in cats and mouse games better part of the day.

At some point the officers were forced to use teargas Canisters to disperse charging groups.

“We were peaceful and I don’t just understand  why the police must just use teargas on us to feel that they are doing their job.This is totally unacceptable we must obey the Constitution. Days are gone when the police were used to such lawlessness  actions on protesters.” Elvis a protester said.

“Wako na ujiinga kwa Sababu teargas ni ya nini we have right to demonstrate it is well take care of in Article 37…We shall not allow such shenanigans to continue. This is not a police state.” Abraham another protester told the media.

President Rejected the Bill

Meanwhile the President William Ruto  has rejected the bill the Finance  Bill in total as demanded by the Gen Zs and that is now upon parliament.

“Listening keenly to the people of Kenya, who have said loudly that they want nothing to do with this Finance Bill 2024, I concede and therefore I will not sign the 2024 Finance Bill, and it shall subsequently be withdrawn,” President Ruto stated.

In his address to the nation, President Ruto promised to engage in dialogue with the young generation on the way forward for the country aimed to control Gen Zs protest.

“Because we have gotten rid of the Finance Bill 2024, we must have a conversation on how to manage the affairs of the country and the debt situation together. I will propose an engagement with the young people and listen to our sons and daughters,” he said.
