Raila, Governor Kananu Call For Unity Amongst Ameru Community


Nairobi 3rd September, 2021 – Nairobi City County, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor, H.E Ann Kananu together with the Right Hon.Raila Odinga called for unity amongst the Ameru community.

The clarion call was made during a lunch meeting organised by Mt Kenya Foundation which consists of Ameru Professionals and Business Community.

The meeting sought to address challenges faced by the Ameru community as well as forge a way forward towards sharing the National cake.

In His remarks the Right Hon.Raila Odinga said that his agenda was one that would seek to encourage unity amongst Kenyans regardless of the community or the tribe they came from and political support. 

”It is a high time we see each other as brothers and sisters for the well being and unity of this Nation and for the sake of our children’s future. We are here to discuss  how to improve the livelihoods of Ameru people who occupy some of the most fertile lands in the country. Merus are known to have a very high work ethic.  Together we will seek to transform livelihoods if we move together as a team.

Kananu further reiterated the immense support she has received from both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

“I am humbled to have been the 1st born of the 2018 handshake that happened between H.E The President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Right Hon.Raila Odinga.  I have received immense support from both leaders. You have seen the transformation and calmness it has brought to the city in the sun that is Nairobi. I want to call upon my political mentor and friend, the Right Hon. Raila Odinga to consider more women in key leadership positions come 2022. Women are more focused, we are known to forge peace, unity, we are reliable and bring stability to everything we touch. Our leadership track record is also impeccable,” said Kananu.


Kananu called for unity and loyalty amongst her Ameru colleagues. 

Raila further called upon the Ameru community to come out as bold as they are and speak against divisive politics that have rocked the mountain region in the past.

The Right Hon. Raila Odinga was accompanied by Eala MP Oburu Oginga and Siaya Senator James Orengo. Other guests  included Meru Governor,  Hon.Kiraitu Murungi,  Former Education Assistant Minister Kilemi Mwiria, Former PS Mutea Iringo, Igembe North MP and National Assembly Majority Deputy Whip Maoka Maore, Former Justice Aaron Ringera and BBI Secretariat member Dr Sarah Kilemi, among others.
