ODM leader Raila Odinga has today officially flagged off mass voter registration in Nairobi in a move to mobilize his support base in the upcoming General Elections.

Raila who was accompanied by top ODM officials asked his supporters to come out in large numbers and register as voters.

“I cancelled all my programs today just to be with you in this important function…Vote is the most vital weapon that dictates who takes power..I want to urge our people mainly our youths to come out and register …you have a problem where you stay there is no jobs, no food so we can only change all these when we register as voters and elect the correct leaders,” Raila said.

“Some are giving out pledges that you will have this and that …no laptops no jobs… halafu anatuambia Sasa ati chukua wheelbarrow amesahau alituahidi laptop kwa watoto. That’s why you have all the reasons to have votes and show this kind of leaders the door,” Raila said.

Raila also warned his supporters against political intolerance but was quick to defend ODM party from recent violence that disrupted deputy president William Ruto.

“We shall have social protection program and that’s why we are saying the needy will be getting 6000 per month when I ascend to power,” Raila added.

Same were echoed by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who asked the ODM leadership at sub-county level to ensure that the exercise is smooth and all their supporters have been registered.

“We must agree that every party leader at sub county level will do this for us .. Please mobilize and whenever you experience any problem inform us I will be there personally,” Sifuna said.
