Nigerian reggae legend Ukeleke Onwubuya popularly known as Ras Kimono has passed on days before his U.S tour.
Reports on Nigerian media say that Kimono passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 10, in Lagos. He was set to the United States on Saturday, June 9, before he complained of feeling unwell and was rushed to a hospital in Ikeja.
He was later referred to Lagoon Hospital on the Island where he died.
Confirming his demise,the commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos state, Steve Ayorinde took to social media to mourn the reggae icon.
The under pressure hit maker was born in Delta state in 1958.Kimono started out his career, when he was a student at Gbenoba secondary school Agbor and later became a member of the legendary Jastix Reggae Ital, alongside Majek Fashek, Amos McRoy Jegg and Black Rice Osagie.
His music was greatly influenced by the poverty, inequality and hardship he witnessed in his early life.
