Relief For Mathare After Tribunal Ruling Quashes Their Relegation

Mathare United Chief Executive Officer Jacktone Obure has welcomed the ruling that annulled the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) and the National Super League competitions for the 2021/22 season.

Obure has described the annulment as a relief for the team that had been relegated.

“We are happy for the ruling by the SDT as our relegation from the top tier was not done procedurally,” he stated.

Mathare United was relegated after the team failed to honor three matches in a row.

“The full ruling will be out today and we are really happy for the decision has saved the team from being relegated”.

In the FKF-PL, Mathare United and Vihiga Bullets were relegated, while in the National Super League, Dandora Love and Gusii United were the casualties.

The case against the FKF Transition Committee was filed in May by Migori Youth FC, Gusii FC, Dandora Love FC, Zoo FC, Kamungei United FC, Coastal Heroes FC, Mwatate United FC, Kisumu Allstars FC and Francis Ngira Okello.

Other bodies that joined FKF Judicial Bodies and Standing Committee include Kariobangi Sharks FC, Vihiga United FC, Mathare United FC, Sofapaka FC later as “interested parties.”

According to the tribunal the FKF Transition Committee made a mistake in ignoring the federation-constituted bodies and forming its own to decide disputes involving teams in the top tier and the second tier leagues.

The two leagues now face uncertainty after the Tribunal’s ruling.
