The Afrobeat star made history as he became the first Nigerian to perform at the global award event.

Rema delivered an energy-filled performance as footballers former players and fans were entertained at the Theatre du Chatelet.

This is the second major sporting event stage the calm down hitmaker has performed on in 2023, with the first being at the NBA All-Star Game.

The singer, during the show, was seen sharing a handshake with several football stars, including Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Erling Haaland, and Bernardo Silva, but conspicuously missed the 8th Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi before returning to the stage to finish his performance.

His  performance at the Ballon d’Or is coming after several other international wins for many other Nigerian singers.

Afrobeats Stars Shinning

Earlier in 2023, Tiwa Savage performed at King Charles’ Inauguration. Davido performed at the World Cup final. Burna Boy delivered a pulsating show at the Uefa Champions League final.

Meanwhile, Argentina and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi was crowned the 2023 Ballon d’Or winner after beating  Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe .

Rema Reacts

The Calm Down singer took to social media to share his gratitude after meeting the stars of World football through his music.

Rema in his Instagram post after performing thanked the organizers of the award for the opportunity and also thanked God.

He wrote; “Afrobeat in the Ballon d’Or, I am very grateful for the opportunity. Glory to the most gracious.
