The High court has issued conservatory orders stopping implementation of resolution by senate assembly removing Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza
“Pending the inter parties hearing and determination of the Application dated 21/08/2024, a conservatory order be and is hereby issued staying the furtherance or the implementation of the Resolution of the Senate removing the Governor of Meru County, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, from Office by way of impeachment.” The order reads.
That the application be served to the speaker of senate or any other person or authority from publishing a notification of vacancy of position of Governor of Meru in the Kenya Gazette.
On count of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, the Senate found Kawira guilty as charged, with 26 Senators voting to confirm the charge, 4 voting against it, and 14 abstaining. 14 senators abstained while four voted in her favour.
On the second charge on gross misconduct, 26 senators voted in favour of her impeachment, two against, while 14 others abstained.
