Nairobi County Council nurses have called off the strike after reaching an agreement with Nairobi county government and Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
In the agreement the both sides agreed to form a committee comprising of workers union, NMS and county government to iron out promotions and allowances stalemate that prompted strike.
Acting County secretary Nairobi County Government Justus Kathenge says the matter will be resolved by end of this week.
‘‘We have agreed to have one committee where we shall discuss these demands and their financial implications and NMS must be incorporated now that health function was transferred to them.,’ Kathenge said.
Nurses have faulted the county government for paying their colleagues who came from national government hefty health services allowance and risk allowances compared to them yet they perform the same duties.
‘‘We are now fighting Covid 19 pandemic together and at the same health facility ,our colleagues who came from national government are being paid risk allowances of 3800 shillings as we receive 1000 shillings. This is unfair and we can’t take it anymore ,’’ they said.
The strike led to the closure of various health dispensaries across Nairobi.
Pregnant women and new mothers seeking prenatal and postnatal services were the most affected.
