Reprieve for Sonko as court suspends Nairobi Governor by-election
The High Court on Monday suspended the Nairobi Governor by-election set for February 18 this year pending hearing of various court cases.
This means temporary reprieve for former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko who had moved to court to contest his ouster from office.
Justice Antony Mrima suspended the by-election pending hearing and determination of the application from Sonko.
The case will be mentioned on January 14, 2021, for hearing of the application by Sonko.
Sonko was last year removed from office after senate confirmed his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.
The embattled governor however moved to court saying that the due process was not followed in his ouster.
Through lawyer Wilfred Nyamu, Sonko wants the court to bar the IEBC from holding elections.
