As the world tries to eradicate the novel COVID-19 pandemic, residents of Loresho Kitisuru are grappling with more fear than hope.
The residents have decried a lack of a health facility in the area arguing that should the pandemic hit the area, then they would not know where to turn to.
The residents have now petitioned the ward administrator to ensure that the lower Kabete dispensary which has been their main public health facility is expanded.
According to the a section of residents known as Kitisuru Citizens Forum, they have always been forced to seek services from various health facilities around the area but since the outbreak of COVID-19, most of these facilities have been operating partially.
“Residents of Kitisuru Ward always access public health services mainly from Kangemi Health Center to those in upper Kitisuru and Lower Kabete Health Center to those in Lower Kitisuru. while others get the services from Westlands Health Center. Since the outbreak of Coronavirus that causes Coronavirus Disease (Covid19), the Kangemi Health Center, Lower Kabete Dispensary and Westlands Health Center have been operating partially, mostly in the morning hours while others provide specific services like clinics for children. The situation has been worsened by the restrictions and curfew due to coronavirus. People who fall sick during curfew time are facing serious challenges. Access to health services will greatly be difficult in situations of total lockdown.” Read a petition from the residents
The residents are now calling on the ward administrator to convene an online public forum to allow them to air their views.
