Environment PS Charles Sunkuli has asked businessmen and residents living along Nairobi River to relocate to other areas.

Sunkuli was speaking during the commencement of the exercise to clean up Nairobi of the waste filled Nairobi River.

Sunkuli stated that they have established that people living in buildings next to the river are the ones polluting the river.

Sunkuli says the clean up will continue under the regulation of National Environment Management Authority.

He has further stated that those found releasing emissions into the river will be arrested and taken to court for prosecution.

NEMA Director Geoffrey Wakhungu said that residents should comply and be ready to provide information to point sources of effluents.

The clean up exercise will extend to Mathare, Bahati and Ngong areas where Nairobi River is.
