Residents protest against bridge under construction for 10 years
Residents of Kayole and Mihango are up in arms against a contractor who is building a bridge that connects Kayole and Embakasi areas.
The residents claim that the bridge has been under construction for almost ten years.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News, the residents say that the contractor was awarded construction tender for the bridge during the reign of the former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and he is yet to complete the job to date.
“Because of the construction, we have been forced to use a long route. Matatus and ballast transporters are also avoiding the route because of the poor roads costing us a lot,” cried one resident.
The residents claim that Mihango Ward MCA Paul Kiwathi allegedly promised to have the project completed in three months but nothing has since happened.
They want the Nairobi Metropolitan Services to come in and fastrack the completion of the bridge which has currently turned into a den for thugs.
‘The bridge has brought insecurity as it’s not busy, so muggers have made it their den,” claim the residents.
They are appealing for urgent intervention in the situation.
