Three robbery suspects arrested over the weekend in Nairobi CBD have told the court that they were tortured during their remand at Central Police Station.

Antony Wambugu, Yusuf Mwangu and Gerald Kangethe told senior principal magistrate Martha Nanzushi that they beaten and forced to record the statement.

Antony Wambugu said he has since developed breathing problems after he was hit on the ribs.

The three are alleged to have robbed Brian Kisuva Ngitu ksh 19000, mobile phone, Driving licence, national identity card and insurance card around National Archives in CBD.

The prosecution alleged that the trio threatened to use actual violence on the Brian Kisuva.

The trial magistrate directed that they be accorded medical attention at prison custody.

They were however granted a bond ksh 500,000 and further directed to appear on 9th September for pre-trial directions.
