Deputy President William Ruto has referred to those pushing for constitutional referendum as political losers who want to use the constitution to gain seats.
Ruto who spoke at the 3rd Annual Legislative Summit in Mombasa today said leaders should instead focus on how to improve the livelihoods of the people they serve.
“On the issue of the referendum, I don’t want to speak about it. Honourable James Orengo wants to drag me there, but not today. Let me say this, lazy people who cannot do things, those who lose elections will always want to use the Constitution as a bogeyman,” the DP said.
Ruto was speaking shortly after Senate Minority Leader James Orengo made reference to calls for constitutional review, first made by his party leader Raila Odinga.
President Kenyatta has since dismissed calls for the review of the Constitution saying his sole aim is to focus on the delivery of his Big Four Agenda action plan.
